These devices are designed specifically for this purpose and are capable of capturing low level hardware interaction (events all) as well as console output (system log) that would not be captured in the messages or EMS log.Note: Platforms prior to those containing RLM/BMC would have little recourse for root causing unexplained takeovers unless a console was connected directly to the device that had failed at the time of the failure.It is important to understand that the RLM or BMC device will collect this data whether they are configured or not. However, an unconfigured RLM/BMC device will not be capable of sending this data to NetApp automatically and will require manual data collection methods to be applied.Known issues with manual data collection:It is important to collect the RLM 'events all' and 'system log' prior to performing any maintenance on the controller that has experienced the unexplained reset.
