MAME is a multi-purpose emulation framework.MAME’s purpose is to preserve decades of software history. As electronic technology continues to rush forward, MAME prevents this important 'vintage' software from being lost and forgotten. This is achieved by documenting the hardware and how it functions. The source code to MAME serves as this documentation.

The fact that the software is usable serves primarily to validate the accuracy of the documentation (how else can you prove that you have recreated the hardware faithfully?). Over time, MAME (originally stood for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) absorbed the sister-project MESS (Multi Emulator Super System), so MAME now documents a wide variety of (mostly vintage) computers, video game consoles and calculators, in addition to the arcade video games that were its initial focus. Here are the rules for this subreddit.

I’m coming from a Raspberry Pi 3 RetroPie setup (FBAlpha with 0.175), with a RetroTINK (or Pi2SCART) RGB board, running on my Sony BVM-D20F1U CRT monitor. Since the RP3 struggles with all the different MAME resolutions, I want to build a Windows computer to run GroovyMAME with CRT Emudriver (which is supposed to be flawless with resolution switching from one game to another).

I have a couple questions I can’t find through searching about my proposed setup if any of you are familiar with GroovyMAME (I tried their forum and a couple others.no help so far.).1.) On my PC, can I run CRT Emudriver off my compatible Radeon HD video card (on the CRT monitor), while at the same time use a second regular/flatscreen/LED monitor (run off the motherboard’s build in Intel video card with HDMI output)? The HDMI LED flatscreen monitor would ONLY be used for things like browsing the web, watching YouTube, streaming movies, etc. it would NOT be used for MAME.2.) If I can do the above, is there any detriment in running Windows 10 vs. Short link second skipper greasemonkey. Windows 7 in regards to having GroovyMAME run the best it can? (as GroovyMAME is the primary use of this computer). I would rather use Windows 10 to browse the web and such, but if I can’t do the above it doesn’t matter and I’ll stick with Windows 7 (if that’s still the best choice for the best performance for GroovyMAME of course).3.) There are arcade games which have resolutions above (15khz) 224p/240p/480i, correct? (couldn’t find a list of those titles if there are).

Since I’m using a multiformat CRT monitor which can do 240p up to 1080i/720p (15-47khz), would I be able to play those games in their proper resolution with GroovyMAME/CRT Emudriver?4.) Random question I’ll throw in: Can have multiple save states per game in GroovyMAME like I can running FBAlpha on my RP3? (sorry for such a basic questionsI went through 4 pages of Google results for ‘ GroovyMAME “save game” ‘ and found absolutely nothing to my surprise)working on another post with two proposed computer builds I would like to run by you guys as well if that’s OK (I haven’t built a PC since 2002 so I’m totally out of the loop). Thank you!. I was able to get it working.after an ENTIRE weekend (talking 2x 12 hour days + Friday night until 4am - no exaggeration). So many driver problems, weird things happening, having to reformat and install windows back again (tried both Windows 7 and Windows 10). I made a more detailed post on ArcadeControls forum (under this same name) if you want more info - complete with screenshots.

Be SURE you install Windows fresh and update NOTHING. I think some updates (which had nothing to do with video card drivers) still bricked something along the way making it so I couldn't get CRT Emudriver running over and over and over again.

Once I installed Windows fresh, and immediately installed CRT Emudriver it seems to be working ok at the moment. Some bigger problem is MAME itself. I'm sorry to say but their online documentation doesn't give you nearly all the information you need. To do something as simple as setup a USB Fightstick controller (which are super popular), you think it would be easy, right? I've literally posted on the largest Facebook MAME group about how to setup my controllers.silence.

Posted on the huge and active Shmups forum.silence. Posted here.silence.

Posted about 8 other places.silence. Seems like people don't even know how to setup some of the most popular USB controllers for MAME out there: Mad Catz and Hori USB Fightsticks.kinda blows my mind. After that my struggle still hasn't ended. I tried to get two highly acclaimed front ends to work. Attract Mode should be simple, right? TONS of video tutorials out there, tons of people using it.until you try it yourself on two different computers and you can't scrape your 0.190 romset no matter what you do. Even move the computer to another person's house just in case it's hour internet connection.still no go.

Tried posting on their forum which links directly to their GitHub for technical problems and posted.silence. Tried scraping over another 4 days (letting it run 24/7, running it multiple times), no go. Bumped the post on GitHub.silence. Then tried Big Blue Frontend a bunch of Sony BVM guys I'm friendly with highly recommend, and I can't even set it up on a 640x480 desktop (the boxes I need to check, and selections I need to make are off screen). That's not even getting into how the timings still aren't correct and the image is shifted on my screen, and even some sync issues (and I bought the EXACT same Asus Radeon HD 6450 video card Calamity himself owns to cut down on these potential problems).P.S.

Yes my above post probably comes across as a little bitter. This has been an absolute complete nightmare (and this is coming from a person who's first computer was a Commodore 64, who works in a very computer technical field, and has built about 200 Raspberry Pi systems chocked full of FBAlpha and MAME.but I still can't figure out what is supposed to be 'simple' stuff like this on a proper PC MAME build.very frustrating).
